First of all, let me make it clear that I'm NOT asking for monetary donations. The site doesn't cost that much to run (for now), and I've got a steady job, so the money area's covered just fine. What I am asking for are things I can add to the site for people to look at, like pictures, results, historical tidbits/trivia, and other things of that nature. The remainder of this page details some specific things I'm looking for, but as always, if you've got any suggestions or comments, email me about them.
This first part is for any current track team members that might be reading - the rest of you can feel free to skip down to the next big heading.
As you might have figured out by reading the Mission Statement, my intention from the beginning was to always have at least one current team member involved in the site. Part of the reason for this was so they could provide news and insights on day-to-day happenings of the team. Unfortunately, I never managed to get anyone else to sign on, and for my part I was already spending a lot of time compiling the results pages, so nothing like that ever got started while I was there.
Regardless, there's no time like the present to start posting such things. So, what I propose is that one or more team members (a cross country person for this fall's cross country season, for example) contact me and we set up some kind of system where they can post their thoughts on meets or workouts or just random stuff. If you've read Running With The Buffaloes, it'd be something like that; some details on meets or workouts interspersed with little moments or things that people say (nothing too personal or private, of course). We could do it in a blog format, or just a page on the site, or whatever, and it wouldn't have to follow a strict schedule. Anyway, if you're a team member and this idea interests you even a little, drop me an email and we'll discuss it.
The most popular part of the site, or so the statistics tell me. Still, there's no reason it can't be far bigger and better than it is now. So, do you have any pictures of TTU track or cross country athletes in action (from any year)? I'll post them all (at least until my space runs out). With scanned or digital photos, you can zip them up and send them as an email attachment (but warn me first so I'll make sure to have some space clear). If all you've got is regular snapshots, that's okay; I've got a scanner and I know how to use it. You can send them to me via snail mail, I'll scan them, then mail them back to you when I'm done. I'll even pay postage both ways if you want. I just want more pictures.
During spring of last year, I had planned (well, thought idly about) another project for when I got done with posting all the results. Namely, to get permission and assistance from the various news outlets that covered Tech track over the years (the UD and A-J, for starters) in reprinting on the site all of the articles they had published on the track team over the years. I didn't get finished with the results stuff until the middle of June, as it happened, by which time I had graduated and permanently moved far away from Lubbock, leaving behind any chance of asking any of them in person. (It's a rather odd request, so I'd rather do it face-to-face, you know?) Still, it's too good an idea for me to simply sit on, so I'll go ahead and ask in a general sense here: if anyone can help me out with getting news articles and the right to republish them, or just give some advice on where to go (keep in mind that I know basically nothing about the newspaper and magazine trades), contact me (sense a trend of some sort?).
Sure, there are plenty of results stretching back a long way as it is, but there's always a chance for more stuff to be out there somewhere that I haven't found. At some point I'll put a comprehensive list of what I have and don't have in this space, but for now what you need to know is this: any result you find that doesn't appear in the results section, I've never seen and need to add it. So tell me about it (preferably accompanied by the source you got it from), and I'll post it in the proper place.
